I just need a little Christmas project

So I had yet another idea...

Just as I was perusing Amazon (and we all know that leads to ideas, shopping, more ideas…) I came across these cute little pillar candle stands! Well, Emerald and I were working on our décor for the church Christmas banquet, and as usual, it can not ever be the same repeated thing as the year (or two, or five) before! It always has to be original!! This year was no different! We had decided to go for a romantic gold and cream, sparkly and shimmering effect, complete with subtle lighting, and candlelit tables. So of course we needed some new things! This is one of my favorite parts of decorating for events! Shopping for new pieces that can be utilized to give us the effect we desire. So off to Amazon!

We found tiered candle stick holders, in all kinds of gold, votive holders both glass and metallic, and these cute pillar stands… Now, if you really know me, you know I like a good deal and will only pay money for something I feel is really worth it! The other holders, weren’t a bad price, the candlesticks were metal and so lovely, and all the other candle holders I know we would use again and again. However… these cute pillar holders, first were the wrong colour… I would have to paint them or something… and second, were outrageously priced for a little wood thing that I would have to also build…

Here's where my idea comes in… now there hasn’t been too many projects and ideas that I have asked Doug if he could create that he hasn’t been able to figure out, or help me create… But this was something a little different… it was a small project… like I mean in size, not quantity. I wanted a dozen of these cute pillar stands… So I told Doug, “I have an idea…” He almost always groans, usually I know this is the sign of excitement… And I showed him these stands on Amazon. He agreed that for little pieces of wood it was too much money, so I suggested that he could build them… He was, of course, delighted! I mapped out the measurements, and Doug immediately went to work! He did a template and once I requested a few changes, he happily built the rest. While he only nailed his hand once, and broke one of them once, over all it turned out great…

They were ready to paint!! I decided gold would be perfect. So I grabbed a can of gold spray paint and made it through 6 full ones and the tops of the 6 others, then my can was done… so Doug was so joyful to go pick up another can for me… I went out the next day to paint the rest, only to discover that the exact same gold metallic lacquer, in the exact same brand, had changed their label, but more so, the colour was not the same… Of course! Why would it be, after all, I had no more time left to paint all of them, and it was not gold, it was more a  rosey gold colour… Oh well, I guess…. We are just going with it!

Short story long,  we set up the displays the next day, and because of the dimly lit room, no one could tell the difference between the golds except for me and Emerald. Win! It looked lovely! Come back again for more tips on how to make your hubby crazy!
