An intro to the ideas

The never-ending phrases like “I think we should…” and “I have an idea…” or  “Do you think it’s possible….” are most husbands’ worst nightmare. Not here! My husband LOVES every idea and is always willing to help make the ideas a reality. Now, for those of you who know Doug, you know that statement may or may not be true! But if you don’t know him, you can believe whichever way you would like to! This is, after all, how to make your hubby crazy, and my blog where I get to say what I want! Embellished or not!

On today’s episode, I am going to share to give you an idea of what it’s like in our house when an idea occurs. Typically, it happens to be late in the evening, as I function best in the evening rather than those crazy morning people. Doug is a crazy morning person, who typically puts in 3-4 hours of work before I even am waking up… I’m talking getting up at ungodly hours, like between 5 and 6 in the AM!!  So my ideas usually occur later in the day.

By the time the idea has happened, I’ve already predetermined that it’s something that should almost have an immediate beginning. Let’s get it done!! Doug is not like me… he has to think and evaluate and think some more about how to do whatever it is… I just want to get-er-done!

I can draw the maps, charts, diagrams or whatever to build or create whatever. Sometimes, it works out great… and other times my idea is something that needs either loads of money, time or space! Sometimes, we don’t have any of those and I have to go back to the drawing board. One thing is for certain, it doesn’t matter how well thought out, planned, or organized, something will likely go wrong and require two or more additional projects to make project #1 a reality…. OR the subsequent projects are required for safety, necessity or for training purposes… See it’s one of those things, if it can go wrong  it probably will, and likely will require additional repairs!

My last project…. Was simple. I just wanted an office nook. All Doug had to do was frame in a window… easy right?? No…. took 2 days…. Measuring, air-nailing the boards in the window space, rip it out because the window sill is unlevel, shim the pieces up, do it again, on all four sides, rip it out because a piece is too small… Then I had the brilliant idea that it would be more simple to wall paper the space instead of paint… in a perfect world, with level floors (basements… ugh) and square walls…. No… needed to realign several times, and get another roll of wall paper….  While it’s not quite finished, it’s almost there….

In any case… projects around here are an adventure. But like Ethan said the first time I suggested one, “I don’t wanna go on an adventure!” some people have to be dragged along! Stay tuned for the next project!!
